Do you really need a specific shampoo for your hair type? . . . Yes! The type of shampoo you use has a direct affect on the
look, feel and condition of your hair as well as the condition of your scalp.
A question frequently asked is “What hair care products would you recommend for my hair?” What shampoo and conditioner
should I be using?

About Hair Types
Knowing your hair type can give you a head start in creating the desired look. Different types range from: straight, wavy, curly
and kinky and each of those have sub-categories like: fine, medium, and coarse. To analyze your hair, first think: DENSITY,
THEN TEXTURE & TYPE. Look for the one that best describes your hair type.
The three sub-types of straight hair are described as:
1.Fine and Thin
Hair that is fine and thin tends to naturally lay flat to the head. Your hair has the most shine of all hair types, that’s the good
news, but, it has a mind of its own and is the hardest to get it to do what you want.
Your hair will look it’s best if shampooed daily. If it’s naturally oily, use a shampoo that leaves your hair squeaky clean. Use a
gentle shampoo that’s formulated for fine hair and that is specified for daily use. If you are in the sun, use a product designed to
protect.
2. Medium hair texture with body
Hair that is medium textured with body can be shampooed either every day, or every other day with a gentle shampoo.
If your hair is chemically treated most likely your hair needs moisture and extra conditioning.
3. Coarse and resistant
Hair that is coarse and resistant, tends to be thick and on the dry side. Your hair type will benefit from getting more moisture
into the hair. Treat it with hair care products formulated to soften your hair and give it more shine and body.
Additional considerations:
• A clarifying shampoo can work wonders for all hair types, if there is hair care product or color build-up on your hair. How do
you know if there is hair care product build up on your hair? If your hair becomes dull and lifeless or feels coated and looses its
shine. Everyone who uses any type of hair coloring or uses hair styling products can benefit from a clarifying shampoo
periodically. Keep a bottle on hand for periodic use, it can work wonders! A clarifying shampoo is formulated to remove
product build-up from the hair
• Remember your shampoo needs can change seasonally, so consult your stylist on the best products for your hair.
